I posted earlier about my need for new hair dye, well I went to the market this morning and got a few errands done all in one trip. Perfect, since I've needed some things before my event packed weekend!
First, the HAIR DYE!! Mwahahaha!! I ended up buying the L'Oreal Paris Preference brand in the natural black shade. Its a bit darker than what I had previously used, but because of the pink, I thought it would be better to go with the darker shade to cover up the pink and to give the whole head a darker shine, which I absolutely love. I'll definitely be keeping my hair black for a while, Its dramatic and perfect for vintage!
While picking up my newest hair color, I had a compulsive buy, a big floppy wide brimmed black hat! The current 60's hippie fashion trend has got me hooked! I remember as a kid being in absolute love with the hippie wild child look and running around with hair down to my knees, bell bottom pants and tie dye shirts. My parents loved that I didnt want designer or popular clothing brands and that I spent my time reading feminist and history books while listening to beatles or carpenters records! This hat absolutely brought me back to those memories as a kid! Add some john lennon sunglasses and a funky dress, and I'm ready for this weekend!! My weekend plans have made me equally nervous and excited this week, which considering this is finals week is not very nice. Saturday will be a shopping day for a specific gift which I will explain soon, and my mom has invited me to see the local middle school play with her because a couple of her friends are volunteering. After rewatching LisafreemontStreet's hair tutorials, and finally having some time to do the hair styles, I've decided that this weekend and spring break will be a vintage revival week. Sadly, being a university student has made me resort to the beautiful attire of sweat pants and baggy shirts with the glamorous pony tail hair style.....so I'm longing to go back to my vintage at long last! But on top of a shopping and play trip, the next day, sunday, is what I have been truly excited for! The new bf and I have decided to make a trip down to the aquarium, where I plan to wear my floppy black hat a la incongito and have the bf be my personal photographer haha. I've been wanting to start documenting my fashion adventures so this could be a start: new hair and new hat, its perfect!!
I havent been to the aquarium in over 6 years so I'm as excited as a little kid going to the aquarium for the first time... or at least, as excited as I was when I went for the first time! Gotta admit I was a nerdy kid! haha As a kid I wanted to be a marine biologist so its a treat for me to go and see the fishies, but to truly see how beautiful they are you have to go scuba diving! There is no other experience like it, even my mother who is terrifiyed of swiming (i'm talking water wings at the local pool afraid) went scuba diving and called the experience "breathtaking and humbling". Can't say it better than that! Besides the aquarium also seemed to me to be a place of mystery and the perfect place for a classy vintage femme fatal to hang out, dressed in incognito and reading a book. See!! I can relate it all to vintage!! So I hope to be posting soon with some pictures of this vintage and fishy filled weekend!

Idiot Girls UNITE!!!
Idiot Girls Unite!!!
This newest installment (2008) in Laurie Notaro's memoir books has brought this "Idiot Girl" tons of joy and moments of uncontrolled laughter. Although I havent quite finished (since I have just bought the book this morning) it has proven to be just as funny as my personal favorite of Laurie Notaro's work, "I Love Everyone (and other Autrocious lies)". Her books have always been great reads because of their degree of relateableness (is that a word?). Being a girl who has been cursed/blessed with bad timing, crazy friends, awkward moments galore, and the clumsy gene, I can relate to Laurie's misadventures and say, "wow, that may be me in a couple of years, but damn it will be funny". As usual, her books are filled with self deprecating humor but Laurie has the gift of never making it feel too self deprecating. Rather, I believe, her writing genius is how she describes the dialogue and situations in her books. Her books are punch line perfect in everyway.
Now I should probably disclose the fact that I began reading her books because many of the covers of her books feature very lovely early 1900's pin up girls which, being a vintage lover, caught my vintage hunting eyes!! So vintage lovers everywhere, if you see her books becuase you spotted some vintage looking book covers, don't be discouraged when you realize it doesnt have anything to do with vintage fashion!! Pick it up anyways!!! You are in for a real treat and laughing has been proven to be good for you, so think of it as a health book....with a vintage cover!! (thats a bad joke, i know!) So for all my Idiot Girls out there, and our Idiot Girl leader, Laurie Notaro.... keep being our proud idiot girl selves!!!

Blue Black or Ash Black?
As is the reality of hair dying, despite the box saying "permanent", you still have to dye it again!!But thats where the fun lies, in changing your hair color at will or whim! So after about 6 weeks of having ash black hair from the L'Oreal Excellence Creme 3A Ash Black, plus I got some pink streaks added about a week after the original hair dye, both the black and pink have started to fade. In all honesty though, the black has faded well, but its the pink that has faded alot and is now an ugly bleach color! Icky and not at all glamorous.
This dye turned out well, and I recomend it. It did look EXTREMELY black black right after application but it fades nicely to a pretty ash natural black. Its great for people who, like me, hate the blue black look because it really bad wig.
So I've decided to redye my whole hair black, but I havent been able to find the same color. I was recommended by a salesgirl at a beauty store to use the Feria hair dye line, but it only had the blue black of which we all know I'm not a fan. So I'm still on the hunt for my hair dye! This is the second time I've dyed my hair black, so I've only used the Loreal ash black and another brand (I don't remember the name) that was the blue black. So I dont know what other brand would work well! Got any tips or recommendations? I have thick curly hair, for consideration. So leave your tips and stories, nothing is better than actual consumer use and experiences! :)
